The biggest benefit of the batten method is that it allows you to visualize the shape in full size as you are creating it. It also has the added benefit of calculating volume, allowing you to design the rocker and rails, and to view the board in 3D. The AKUShaper method allows you to “fiddle” with the shape more easily on the computer screen to arrive at your final design. For the batten method, you need a long, thin flexible “batten” to define your curve, and some small nails/hammer to temporarily secure the batten on the Masonite to define the outline curve you want.īoth methods work well and are pretty easy. For the AKUShaper method, you need internet access, a computer, and a printer. If you want to create your own design from scratch, you have two basic choices: AKUShaper Software or the “old school” batten method.

If you have an existing board that you want to try to copy, simply trace the outline of an existing board that you want to try to copy. If you are satisfied with any one of Greenlight’s pre-designed shapes (58 available at last count), then you get to skip the design-stage and go straight into making your template. The first thing you need to do is determine which method you will use to make a template. All you have to do is shape the bottom contours and rails resulting in less work, less dust, and a better board as the end result.

Reinforce the outside template line with masking tape and cut it out with a pair of scissors - done. From there, spritz the side you’re tacking the template pages to and lay them down using the crease for your centerline. That’s the 2-sided equivalent of the masonite blank we’d use for a permanent template. Instead, I take a length of 30" or 36" wide construction paper that comes in the rolls, fold it in half lengthwise (evenly) and lightly spritz the inside of the fold with some spray adhesive to tack both halves together. Well, I got a lap top ! It’s dated, but runs “Windows Vista.” I’m thinking it might work? Thanks for the info.įor 1-time use templates I skip the masonite altogether, which is to say I haven’t done a masonite template in 2 or 3 years. What about shaping machines, are they costly? The point of the forum is to help each other. Trying to get back into it.again, I just need a few templates. My apologies Folk’s I just been puter illiterate for a few yrs. This message have a pic of a template attached. Like Jamie said, the paper comes out of ur printer with gridlines and numerated, so u just have to glue them together.
